Pros: cheap and decent...easy to operate...expanded widescreen...good headphone speakers...can't complain for $60!
Cons: battery is clunky and unit seems delicate. can't find more batteries...average resolution...tiny screen
The Bottom Line: If you can't get it as cheap as I did...get one!

| polarpooch's Full Review: Apex Digital PD-450 5 in. Portable DVD Player |
Walmart had this on clearance for $60--so what the heck, right?
It's really a pretty good little unit, especially for the price. The screen is OK, not the best resolution, but OK for the uses I plan for this player. The credit card remote is pretty effective, and offers lots of manipulation features. The external speakers are garbage, when I hook up studio headphones to the unit, the sound is surprisingly good. I like that the player offers the option of expanding widescreen DVDs to full screen, which is preferable on such a small viewing screen. It seems a delicate little player, so I'm being very careful transporting it. However, after hours of trekking through airports and security checks in January, it held up quite nicely.
The battery could be better. It's difficult to attach to the unit, and is quite heavy. It's also of limited use, and I haven't been able to locate a resource for additional batteries. I'm always afraid I'll break something when attaching/detaching the battery.
My mom got one of these, too for her roadtrips, and says she likes it, too.
Sorry to hear that some folks got a bad player and that Apex has lousy CS. I haven't had to deal with that situation, so I can't comment. Perhaps I've gotten lucky, but then so did my mother, who purchased the same player the same day I did.
