tolkien09's Full Review: Apple iMac 15 in. (M9105LL/A) Mac Desktop
I purchased this machine for my wife two years ago to go on her desk in the kitchen. The overall design, PC compatibility and pleasing looks made it the perfect choice. The machine is well designed and comes with a nice package of software(iLife Suite, Quicken and a Few Games). The system is easy to setup and use either as a stand alone machine or as part of a home network (With PCs, Routers, Shared Printers, Etc.). It comes with a built in ethernet port, modem, and several usb and fire wire ports. The computer detects and configures itself for most new devices (Digital Cameras, Printers, Scanners, etc.) without additional software needing to be loaded. It picked up and configured our Cannon Digital Camera and HP printer without a problem. The screen is very clear and can be moved for your viewing height and angle. (One reviewer complained about the screen being unclear and not very good. I think this person must have had something wrong with their video card because I get more reaction from guests on how good the screen looks than any other feature on the computer). I have a Dell Ultrasharp Flat Panel at Work to compare the screen to and the IMAC has a better screen. The machine can run several applications open together (MS Office, ILife, Some Games)at acceptable speeds without freezing or locking up. Parents please note this is not a 3D Gaming Machine for extreme gaming.
Most business users would not have considered a Mac in the past because of capability issues with their PCs at work. This is no longer an issue thanks to "Bill". You can email your MSOffice files back and forth without any conversion procedures needing to be done (Other major programs seem to be following this lead). As far as the internet goes some websites may display differently if you are accessing them with your Mac (Generally these are smaller companies) and can cause a few problems (Not being able to select a choice in certain fields seems to be the main issue). I have not had a problem with this machine freezing in the 2 years I have owned it. Most freezing issues on newer computers are user related.
This machine is great for home use and I would recommend it. My parents are going to buy a new iMac for their home based on how much they like this one.
