Pros: Intuitive controls, light, dependable, easy organization of music, great sound
Cons: Price, battery life.
The Bottom Line: The iPod is the best portable audio player out there. The MP3 player revolution is here and you can throw that CD player in the back seat.
lmoore00's Full Review: Apple iPod photo 4th Generation (20 GB) MP3 Player
The iPod keeps getting better. This fourth generation 20GB is the best yet, with a click wheel and better battery life. The pros to this unit are its small size and weight, intuitive and easy controls, great sound, strong durability, and fast hard drive. The cons are its price and battery life.
I won't beat around the bush: the iPod is the best MP3 and music player out there. No other models even come close. You cant beat its unbelievable click wheel and easy user interface. Anyone can pick up an iPod and start clicking away blasting out the tunes.
The menu options are easily broken down into Music, Settings, and Extras. Music is divided by playlists, songs, albums, artists, composers, audiobooks and genres. There is a shuffle function which works great. You can shuffle by songs or by albums.
.MP3, .WAV, .AA3, and .WMA are all supported by iPod.
(.WMA must be converted to .AA3 through iTunes)
The earphones that you get with your iPod offer suprisingly great, clear sound. However, they are not as durable and quite uncomfortable in your ears. I would suggest Bose Quiet Comfort 2 or Tri-port headphones.
The iPod has great durability. You can tell it was built to last and very sturdy. Still, I would recommend a case for it to protect the screen and hard drive. The hard drive is very fast compared to other MP3 players. It switches songs fast and with minor pauses between songs.
With all these great features of the iPod, it comes at a hefty price. Expect to pay around $249-$299 for the 20 Gig Model. The battery life, however improved in this model, still only lasts at around 6-8 hours. With each additional charge, the battery life slowly goes down until eventually you have to replace the battery. Apple charges $99 for battery service.
All in all, a great player for what you pay. In fact, it is hands down the best Audio player out there.
