| spongebob_man1's Full Review: Audiovox D1705 7 in. Portable DVD Player |
Portable DVD players are great inventions. They are more portable than a laptop, though they can't do as much, and often the graphics and audio are just as good if not better. The Audiovox D1705 is a great way to entertain kids or teens. Another great thing is that you can hook up a gaming system, which increases their entertainment value. I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of mine.

Product Description:
The affordable Audiovox D1705 features a broad, seven-inch widescreen LCD and allows you to watch DVD's wherever you are. It's perfect for use in the car, at a hotel, or on a plane, which is probably why you are reading this review. It's compatible with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be set up with the coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. I don't suspect many people will use this feature uneless they don't have a DVD player at home. All A/V in/out are minijack (.125-inch), so compatible adapter cables are required to work with standard headphones and other A/V cords. Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, zoom (2x, 3x, or 4x), and multiple angle viewing is also possible.
The included AC adapter and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (three hours of playback) provide power for your D1705. Headphones are not included. Some functions are only available through the remote (included). The remote has decent range too! I was surprised that it worked as far as 20' away.
The biggest plus is that you can play PS2, XBox, and GCN games on there. I have the PS2, and it's cool but it takes a while to get used to such a small screen.
It is very portable because it is surprisingly small and light even with the battery attached. Even though overheating isn't much of a problem it can be if you're running it for more than 3 hours or so. Long trips can tax it a bit. Give it a break every once in a while and try to keep it out of the sun.
Final Say:
With the three hour battery life and available power adapters there should be no problem with playability. In fact, you could even hold a Lord of the Rings movie marathon! Dang, when the Return of the King comes out that'd be a 9 hour movie marathon! Crazy! Imagine when all the Harry Potter movies are completed! Anyway, the audio and video quality of the D1705 are impressive and won't leave you wanting more. They will satisfy your movie appetite on the go!
I highly recommend the D1705!
