| Freak369's Full Review: Black & Decker T2750 Long Slot 2-Slice Toaster |
When we moved cross country there were some things that I didnt want to part with but it just wasnt practical to pack them and take them along. As much as I loved my Black & Decker Versatoast it was pretty big and starting to look pretty haggard. When we started shopping for small appliances for the kitchen I knew that a new toaster was in order. I guess I never stopped to think about all the choices there are to make - number of pieces it will toast, size, color, manufacturer, price range and wide slot or regular. I ended up getting the Black & Decker T2750 Chrome Classic 2-Slice Toaster because I liked the look of it and the fact that it didnt take up that much space. Since my two oldest are away at school thats two less people to eat breakfast or ask for Pop-Tarts so I figured that I could get along with a two slice toaster.
I wont say that this was a bad purchase but I will say that now that I have a two slot instead of a four slot, it seems like everyone that is here for breakfast in the morning wants toast, frozen French toast sticks or some type of toaster pastry. When my youngest saw this he said it looked so cool because of the finish on it and started on a diatribe about how it looked like a Terminator Toaster because of the shine of it. After that the poor thing got tagged with the somewhat morose nickname and its stuck ever since. I think part of this had something to do with me telling them that its a hands off thing - they arent allowed to use it unless I am in the kitchen but Ill get into that later.
Black & Decker T2750 Chrome Classic 2-Slice Toaster
First off, this thing just looks sweet on the counter - its got this nice sleek chrome-like [its stainless steel] finish to it that goes great with the modern look of the kitchen [after four months of hell, its finally finished]. I picked this because I was sick of having to fight with the other toaster to fit in bagels and large pieces of bread - its not that it couldnt handle it but if the bread wasnt sliced a certain way then it would get too close to the heating elements and Id end up with these little burnt areas on my toast. This has the wide slot feature to it so even if you get those monster sized bagels theyll be able to fit inside this nicely. You also get some cool controls with this like a frozen selection guide for pastries or frozen French toast or waffles. Theres also a reheat option that zaps things to heat them up - this is nice when you want to warm up a piece of toast but dont want it to really cook any more.
This is pretty easy to use but you will want to read the manual that comes with it if you are going to use and of the special functions like the reheat or frozen food selection. I, as usual, skipped this rather important step and learned the hard way. Most toast items will cook up in under two minutes but if you are working with frozen items, three and a half minutes seems to be the norm. Pop-Tarts and similar items need to be put in twice to make sure they are fully cooked but be careful of anything that has any type of a frosted icing - this is pretty hot when it comes out of the toaster and it will burn you if you grab it the wrong way. I dont let the kids use this because I have it on the back of the counter top and they have to reach over stuff to get to it but it is simple enough for kids to use - but you have to make sure the pathway to it is clear of anything that they might knock over or bump. Call me paranoid but Id rather have this at the back of the counter and have to make the toast than have them moving stuff around and having an accident.
Size
This is seven inches high, six and a half inches wide and almost sixteen inches long. This is something that will save a good bit of space in a cramped kitchen because the toaster toasts items side by side instead of next to each other. This also means that the heat is distributed a little more evenly so if you are worried about a toaster heating up a cabinet that might be above it, this is a good pick. This does have wide slots so if you are only planning on doing Pop-Tarts or sliced breads then you might want to go with something that has a standard slot. This will hold the items in place when you use it but why bother to have that feature if you are never going to use it?
Warranty
Black & Decker gives you a one year warranty against defects in workmanship but to be completely honest, if something is going to break chances are it is going to happen the first few times that you use it and in that case, its easier to just return it to the store where you purchased it and exchange it for a new one than having to mail it to them. You will want to make sure that you fill out and mail in the warranty card in case something happens down the road and remember to tape the receipt to the warranty card so you have it if it is needed.
Things To Know
This is listed a few different ways so if you are going to look for this on line and you can find any listings under one title you can try any of these to get search results: Black & Decker T2750 Long Slot 2-Slice Toaster, Black & Decker T2750 Chrome Classic 2-Slice Toaster or Black & Decker T2750. As you can see, the product numbers are identical but some sites [including Epinions, Shopping.com and Dealtime] list them differently.
The slide out crumb try is there for a reason - to make cleaning this easier. Please remember to clean this out on a regular basis or you will regret it. When I had the Versatoaster I didnt clean it out for a while and I started to notice a burnt toast smell when ever I would use it - it was the crumbs in the bottom heating up and getting toasted, after a while they were burnt and when they would heat up theyd really smell up the kitchen.
The Bottom Line
I wont say that this was a bad purchase but like I said, ever since I got it - it seems like everyone wants toast for breakfast. If you are looking for a two slot toaster that will save space in a kitchen and looks nice then this is a good pick. I found this at Target for $14.99 which seemed like a pretty good deal to me for what I was getting. To be honest, I dont need all the fancy controls or reheat feature that comes with it but when I priced others that were similar to this - this one was the cheapest. The Black & Decker name is one that I trust and this does come with a one year warranty so I know that if something breaks on it, they will fix it or send me a new one.
As always, thanks for the read!
