Pros: Sounds good playing pre recorded cd's.
Cons: Recorder is pretty useless...so far, using non brand name discs.

My experience with the Philips cdr 775 recorder has been less than wonderful. I bought it on line from Brandsmall.com about a month ago, and their service was very prompt, but they are less prompt to answer my queries about returning the machine for a refund. I set about buying blank cd's, the cheapest I could find naturally, and right away I had a problem. It would not recognize the discs, and on two different occasions I had to return discs to the store. One retailer told me that Philips do this on purpose and that their recorder will only recognize brand name cd's. Eventually I got discs at Office Max and Staples that it would recognize, but not the end of my problems by any means. Now it will record on the blank cd's, but more times than not, it will not finalize (the process the recorder goes through so that you can play the new copies on any cd player). I have a stack of recorded cd's that I intended giving to friends, but they will not work on their machines because of the failure of the finalize procedure. On some occasions when it miraculously does finalize, and I take the cd out, I get an error message saying "NOT FINALIZED." So I put it back in to finalize again and now it will not recognize the disc again. Very infuriating. On nearly all occasions after making a cd, it will play in the other tray (it has two trays), but not in the recorder tray, but this is of little use since I am not making copies for myself. Also, supposedly, according to the owners manual, as long as you do not finalize the blank cd, you can return at a later date to finish recording on the disc. This does not happen also, again because it will not recognize the disc. I have yet to use a brand name cdr blank disc, maybe it will make all the difference. If it does I will Let you know.
