| ingoditrust's Full Review: Canon EOS-20D Body only Digital Camera |
I've used Canon cameras for four years after switching from more than 20 years of Nikon film and digital cameras.
I switched to Canon, first with the D30,then D60.Nice cameras but they had other issues the Nikon didn't .Such as: Backfocus and a "Christmas tree" effect" when photographong outdoors in the sun.Not acceptable in the professional working photo business.
My Canon 10D's served me well for close to three years.I own five.
But it's time to grow and move on and my clients are now honed and use to digital they want and need bigger files straight from the camera.
The Canon 10D has 6.3 megapixesl. The Canon 20D has 8.2 megapixels and it is a big difference when your reproducing large in publications and posters.
The camera feels the same in most repsts to me as my 10d.It's short one button on the back which is fine with me.It was just for turning on the screen viewer.
The battery is the same as the 10D but the new and much improved battery charger has the plug compactly built on..No cord to lose or trip over!
The charger also includes lights that show you where the power is.It takes about 90 minutes to recharge the battery.
I love shooting in black and white. It has a mode..right in the menu to switch.
Sometimes it's hard to picture a scene in black and white and this is where it comes in great.I'd rather shoot like this than convert later in Photoshop.
For weddings, with brides wanting both color and black and white, you can use
your back up camera and just keep it on b&w mode and go the "Fine art route."
The camera is ready about 2 seconds after turning it on,.MUCH faster than the 10D.
What I don't like is the shutter sound...I dread if I have to shoot a ballet, lecture, wedding ceremony or concert.
The shutter has a loud THUNG...This really should be addressed in the next camera.I am keeping a 10D for when I need SILENCE..
Ok,as far as shooting.I shoot mainly in RAW..The menu for picking RAW is a bit confusing. At first I picked the wrong setting and got a RAW file and a large jpeg.Good when you need it,a waste of space when you don't.
The shots were all properly exposed and crisp and clear. The focus is quite fast on this camera and brings out the best in all of my lenses.Better than the 10D in that regard.
I'm still working with the Canon browser software and I'm not quite sure I am sold on it.I shoot in RAW mode quite often and the software seems to have a lot of bells and whistles for changing exposure and curves and batch processing. This camera takes spot on exposures.I have not had to adjust anything yet!
I've been relying on iview-multimedia to get my images form my Compact flash card and reader onto my MAC. It's quick, and that would be the next step in my workflow anyone as I need to keyword and caption my images for stock before I burn a DVD or archive them.
I lvoe this camera. To date,it's one of my favorites. And by far my fave work camera.I now own two and after I ebay my 10D's will have three.
