| klweaver's Full Review: Canon Elura 65 Mini DV Camcorder |
Just got my new Elura 65 today and I will preface this by saying that I am not techno saavy and somewhat intimidated by new gadgets. This camcorder so far has been extremely easy to use. I had it out of the box and all the extras (batteries, straps, lens cap, etc) assembled, the time and date set, and a one minute recording of my daughter done in about 30 minutes. I know there is a lot more to learn about this camera, but for right out of the box basics it is really easy. I bought this camera as an upgrade to an 8 year old Sony Handycam and already can tell you that the quality of the new camera, in my opinion, is top notch! The sound quality is good, too. I did a lot of research before buying this camera and even was sold on the Elura 60 until I called Canon and was told that the Elura 60 is not as good for night mode (which is important to me since we are going to Disney in October and I want to record at night) and the 60 also does not have the capability of adding additional accessories such as an external microphone (for down the line school plays, etc) because it has a cold shoe while the Elura 65 does a much better job in night mode as well as the capability of adding the additional accessories. I will also give you a couple of pieces of advice about accessories. Get a couple of extra batteries, the NB-2L's because they are nice and small and won't weight down the camera. Also, have some tapes bought for when you get the camera so you can start enjoying it right away. A good place to get both of these that I found on ebay is called Accessory Genie and I got the battery for $9.50 and 3 60 minute tapes for $12.95 (plus $6.99 s/h). Batteries for this camera at Circuit City and Best Buy for example sell for $50 and 3 tapes will run you $20. Finally Targus makes a nice camera/camcorder backpack bag now that I picked up for $29.99 at Best Buy that fits this new little camcorder, all accessories, the instruction book, tapes, AND a place for my Olympus digital camera which I would highly recommend not only for the comfort factor but also who likes to haul around the shoulder strap camera bag!
