Pros: Excellent printing. Seperate ink cartridges. Easy installation.
Cons: Scanning is awful. Refer to review section.
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this device. I don't understand why it got such great reviews when it cannot scan a decent 8-1/2" x 11" if its life depended on it.

This printer should have, and could have been by far the perfect solution. But alas, it falls way short when it comes to scanning documents via the platen glass or the automatic document feeder.
When scanning an 8-1/2 x 11" from the platen glass, the entire image is shifted over by a white margin of 1/8" on the left, so you are missing 1/8" on the left, and on the right of the scan. When using the automatic feeder, the loss of data occurs on the top and bottom of the scan. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER! I have complained about this to Canon directly, and they tell me this is mentioned in their specifications. I cannot believe they would release such a product.
To be sure I didn't have a dud, I've tested the scanning engine on 2 identical MP730s, and both exhibited the same problems. This is a huge oversight on the design team and QA testers at Canon.
Other than the scanning, everything else about this printer is perfect. The printer works great, as does the fax and copy features (assuming you don't mind the white margins and loss of data in scanned images).
If Canon can tackle the scanning problems in their next product, they'll have a winner, but not scanning basis documents correctly makes this device a real loser.
Real close Canon, but no cigar. You missed out big time on this one. Make sure your next MFP does scanning the way it should, they way all of your competitors do it... CORRECTLY!
