| sorinb's Full Review: Canon PIXMAâ„¢ iP5000 InkJet Photo Printer |
I bought this printer 8 months ago.
The quality of the photo prints on glossy paper is flawless. I cannot distingusih a photo printer this way from the same photo made in a conventional lab. All this with only 4 colors, that is quite an achievment!!!
Paper handling is also very well done. The printer has the ability to made duplex somehow by dragging the sheet back and revers it. This feature alone will cut your paper consumption in half.
I fed all kind of papers into this small beast: plain paper, very thick carstock (280-300 g/sqm), magnetic paper (760 g/sqm), inkjet canvas (high texture). NO PROBLEM with any of them.
Borderless works well, I just wish there were more borderless paper formats in the driver or a custom borderless paper size.
Using this feature I was able to print credit-card business cards 54x86mm direclty in this printer.
The ink cartridges are without printhead and very refill-friendly. The OEM cartridges are quite cheap, compatibe ones 1/3 of price and refill even cheap.
My first complaint is that the ink consumption is not shown in the driver, you only get a "low ink" warning.
The second will be about the draft text quality which is quite poor. But anyway, what are drafts for? Read them and throw them...
Bottom line: amazing quality, good speed, fantastic paper handling versatility, built-in duplexer, borderless: what more can you ask from a printer?
