dcarlber's Full Review: D-link DI-514 Wireless Router
I bought this router, probably for the same reason other bought this router, because it was fairly cheap and looked to have good features. As a caveat, I should say that, if one is a beginning user this router would be a good one to use. However for the more advanced user, look elsewhere to save yourself a whole world of hurt.
1) Setting up WPA-PSK seemed relatively painless, until, occasionally, the router decided to go back to an un-encrypted link.
2) Trying to set the antenna power to anything less than 100% was not possible.
3) Port forwarding was flaky, at best. I would have routinely reboot the router to get it to work.
4) Saving and uploading the user settings (config.bin) in Linux flat out didn't work.
5) Finally, once I had turned on the wireless ability, and tried to turn it off, the entire router reset to factory default settings.
I had contacted Dlink about these issues. They mentioned that they were aware of these problems, yet there were no plans to fix them and suggested I buy a higher capability router.
Please forgive me if I purchase an item with the expectation that it work. It appears to me that the product firmware was rushed into production before it was fully tested.
