| work_then_die's Full Review: Dell Dimension 8250 (D825RH) PC Desktop |
I am blown away with my new computer the Dell Dimension 8250, which I paid a spendy $3,419 for. Dell has pack this new computer with components far superior to any I have seen. It contains the new 3.06-GHz Intel Pentium 4, as well as 1GB of 1,066-MHz RDRAM.
My new computer has a typical 2.4X DVD+RW drive; however, by the time you read this, the 8250 will come with some of the first 4x DVD+RW/+R drives on the market, which should have noticeable impact on DVD burn times. The other optical drive is a standard 16X DVD-ROM.
The 18-inch 1800FP flat panel is easily the nicest display I have ever seen. Response time for the LCD is 30 ms; not as fast as the 25-ms models Dell and others offer, but still good for the occasional movie or game. It's driven by the top-notch ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.
Audio is similarly excellent, thanks to the Creative Labs Audigy 2 sound card and Altec Lansing ADA-995 5.1 speaker system. I also liked the look and feel of the new multimedia keyboard, which lets you control audio with a round dial (like on a stereo) and offers an array of one-touch launch buttons.
Loaded on the impressive 200GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive are Microsoft Windows XP Home, Office XP Small Business, and MGI VideoWave 4, which takes good advantage of the FireWire ports. Dell includes a full three-year warranty on everythingicing on a very tasty cake indeed.
I mostly use this computer for gaming, downloading, and burning. On my last computer I didnt have a DVD burner so this was an excellent addition. I have burned close to a hundred DVD movies. I also burned all the music I had from my computer, which is like 600 songs, onto a DVD and it used a forth of the memory.
