Decent laptop

Pros: Light,portable,cheap, serves your purpose, decent speed
Cons: Poor display & audio quality, microsoft OS problems, touch pad is unimpressive.
The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended. But go for a better version if you play lots of video and audio.

This is my first laptop. I have used desktop for long long time but decided to go in for a laptop for mobility.
I use PC to access web surfing and also microsoft office tools, adobe photoshop and occassionally watch movies and listen to MP3s.
My preference was to buy a laptop with centrino technology since they are lightweight, have a decent amount of battery life and come with integrated wireless card. Dell has the lowest price for the same configuration and also boasts of excellent customer care service.
So, I purchased my Inspiron 600m online which cost me 1040$ through a coupon (Decent deal). The configuration was Intel Pentium M 1.4 GHz, 384 (SDRAM), 40 GB hard drive, 24X CDR-DVD combo drive.
I recieved my laptop in 7 days (Now that was quick).
The pros:
- The laptop is pretty light and very portable.
- It has a good build and is just over an inch in thickness( perhaps a bit heavier than what the manufacturer claims).
- The battery duration lasts between 3 - 4 hours on moderate usage.
- Unlike lots of reviews regarding heating of the left palm rest area, I have felt it to be warm but not uncomfortably hot!
- Wireless connectivity works well and is indeed a boon.
The cons:
- Touch pad is aweful. Difficult to move the cursor around smoothly sometime (Gets stuck at times)
- Display and sound: This laptop does not have the greatest of graphic dislpays (Inspiron 8600 is better) Also, the sound quality leaves lot to be desired.
- Microsoft OS has its own miseries.. the first booting and installation process was very slow and the laptop hung a couple of times but I have had no problems since then.
- Dell has loads of Junk software particularly media softwares which are at most, not required. I had tough time getting rid of them.
- Speed: Although the processor is fast and is known to handle multi-tasking well, it is definitely slower when running graphics softwares (Including Photoshop).
