jsun's Full Review: Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20 inch LCD Monitor
After contemplating its price tag for a few months, and watching the specials dell periodically offers, I picked up this beauty for 25% off. It creates a lot of free space on my desk, which I love.
I was a bit nervous about buying this, mostly because of some users comments about a "screen door effect", and also because I don't (yet) have a DVI card. However, thoughts of dead pixels and uneven lighting flew from my mind after starting this baby up for the first time.
I've been running in 1024x768, which isn't even the monitor's native resolution, and it looks great. I've watched a movie (Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations), which looked great, and I also use it as my television. TV quality is necessarily limited, because the quality of signal isn't meant for a display this large, but it still looks fine to me.
Anandtech's review mentions that the cable management system is an annoyance because the insulator on the monitor's power cable can get snagged on the cable holster on the base of the stand. This does not, as they claim, "make the holster useless". All you have to do is make sure that you position the insulator between the display and the holster. Then, everything works as planned.
Some user reviews I've read also complained about Dell not providing pivot software on the CD that comes with the display. While this is true, and the drivers were not prominently placed on Dell's site, they weren't hard to find with Google. However, I appreciate all of the complaints I've read, because they let me know that the software exists, so I could go download it. It would be nice if pivoting the monitor automatically changed the screen orientation. The way it stands, you have to change the screen orientation using the software, then pivot the monitor. Not a big deal at all, considering how often you are likely to pivot the monitor.
