The original Diablo title kept me up on late summer nights for weeks with headphones blasting death-rock as I cleansed the underworld of its inherant evil. This game was 15 levels of spine chilling roleplay through the most graphicly pleasing labrynths I've seen. Blizzard has now come out with a sequal, and ever since the invention of the sequel, we have all questioned their value. The sequal has always been a poorly redone version with a few added characters or control quirks (usually not good ones). Blizzard seems to constantly ignore this stereotype pumping out repeatedly good sequals like Warcraft II, Starcraft, and now DiabloII. DiabloII revamps the roleplaying of the original with class-specific level advancements, the addition of "socketed" items which can be imbued with magical powers from enchanted gems, and a level of item class in-between "magical" and "unique" (this is "rare" which lets you have more advance prediction on a n items value as well as just enhancing the realism of the game). Instead of sticking you in a stuuf old monastary, you are placed in a predominantly open world where you can freely roam about slaughtering monsters to your heart's content, or you could complete the ample quests and advance to new "Acts" (there are 4 total). New "Acts" mean new terrain, new people to interact with, and more challenging beastiary. This game score high on replay value as the levels are randomly generated at every new game just as its predecessor's were, and the addition of three difficulty levels in single player mode as well as multiplayer assists those without the internet (or those with inaddequate connections) to enjoy the game more. Graphically the game is not as revolutionary as its predecessor was but it is not unpleasant to play by any means. The animations are smooth and the dropout while playing minimal. (Be sure to close ALL other open applications to keep this down to a minimum though.) Control is almost identical to the original, and the addition of a run function was expected, intelligent, and very useful.(: An item finder (alt) allows the player to more easily find items in those dark caves by highlighting their names and making life just that much easier. The 5 character classes are innovative, and so complex I can't go into all their details here. But, the Barbarian and the Paladin are reminicent of the @** kickin' Warrior of the original. The Sorceress of the Wizard and the Amazon of the Rouge. The Necromancer is constantly compared to the Wizard, but I feel he is an entity apart. With NPC summoning skills, poison dagger enchantments and ressurections, the Necromancer really is somthing we all REALLY wanted. (come on we all knew that the Golem was pretty puny last time, well meet DiabloII's Golem, they're a world apart.) Oh and by the way, personally, I love the SFX.
