zaqws's Full Review: Ecoquest Living Air Classic Air Purifier
I bought my Living Air Classic two years ago after recovering from a bout with walking pneumonia. I believed the advertising claims that it would clean and sanitize the air in my home, and that it would be good for my health. I have run it 24/7 on the recommended settings for my space. I have noticed no decrease in the number of colds I get and certainly no decrease in their severity or duration. I also have noticed no change in the amount of dusting necessary around the house.
I am currently trying to get over a case of bronchitis & sinusitis and am glad I found the review by cikaris here on epinions. I am angry that I let myself be taken in by the hype. Of course ozone is bad for you, so of course having this thing running 24/7 in my bedroom, even at the recommended setting, is going to be bad for my health. I shut off the unit and opened the windows (I live in Pasadena, CA) after reading the first few paragraphs of cikaris' review. By the time I finished his article, I was ready to pitch this $600.00 health hazard in the trash.
I will also add that part of the hype on the radio ads is "there's nothing to clean, no filters to buy." That is not true. You have to flush out the coarse charcoal filter on the back at least once a month, taking care that it is bone dry before you re-start the ionizer. You are also instructed to "periodically" clean the interior plate - the manual suggests using a tooth brush and a solution of bleach and water.
They also claim that it eliminates dust from the home. This also is not true. You will see plenty of dust, even right around the unit itself.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS FRAUDULENT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ITEM. I strongly suggest you read cikaris' entire review and then buy a good air cleaner with a hepa filter - as I have now done since first writing this review. Go to allergybuyersclub.com and you'll see a good selection of legitimate air purifiers that have been tested and approved, many costing much less than this piece of junk. Funny, you won't see any EcoQuest product anywhere on that site.
I have read the positive epinions here on the Living Air and all I can say is, hey, 12% of Americans believe Elvis is alive.
Search all you want for an endorsement of this thing by Consumers Union (publishers of Consumer Reports magazine). You will find none because this product is a fraud. As I stated above, I used it for two years according to the manufacturer's instructions and it did NOTHING for me.
Where's the class-action lawsuit ? I'm ready to sign on. John Edwards, are you paying attention ?
