ctmuzik's Full Review: Eureka 5892AVZ Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
We recently purchased this Eureka to replace our debunked fire breathing Kenmore upright. I am a penny pincher and was looking for a well rated affordable unit, and after a bit of research we found this model. We were looking for a bagless, system with washable filters. I have to say I couldn't be happier since we spent $109.99 at our local hardware store, and the local big box stores listed the same model at $159.99-$179.99.
This product will literally SUCK your carpet right up off the pad and beat the dirt loose. It claws its way forward and you really have to hang on. I thoroughly swept our dining room, living room, and hall: pass one; 1.5 gallon zip lock bag nearly filled with debris and hair, pass two; 1 gallon bag 3/4 full with less debris and more hair, pass three; quart baggy 2/3 full with loose carpet fibers and pet hair. I cleaned, but did not wash out, the filters and canister after each pass to allow for maximum suction and air flow. Easy to clean as I am an allergy sufferer. Recommend emptying outdoors to avoid dust getting back in your home.
The Power Paw is a debris munching demon that devours almost anything in its way with a variable angle sliding head. I must admit that the noise of the Power Paw is a bit offensive, but once you power it up you will agree it is pretty cool "Tool Time" moment. Use extreme caution when picking up small solid objects. Others have mentioned the Power Paws' ability to jettison small metal objects at high velocity. I, of course, had to put this to the test with several items: screw, nail, penny, and peanut. Needless to say these objects did take flight about half the time. The peanut vaporized into minute particles after hitting the wall, the nail actually made a small puncture in my drywall, and the penny left a noticeable dent in my garage door 18 feet away.
Moving forward, Be certain to check around for the "new" model including the larger collection bin, telescopic spin duster, Power Paw Dock, and longer grey "noodle snoot." The cord is ample for most applications, and afforded no outlet switching which was my biggest pet-peeve about my Kenmore. I moved around the house attacking dryer hoses, crevices, and air vents this unit left nary a trace of dirt behind.
The spin duster sounded interesting, but could be improved. It must be locked into the short position prior to inserting into the unit or the above mentioned "super suction" will try to tear it apart. I recommend locking it, opening the latch to engage the spin feature, then inserting the duster as this decreased the dust on the outside of the unit. It does grab the dust off electronics very well.
The HEPA filter is not washable as it is paper, and they run about $20.00(manufactured for this unit only). There are two washable filters in-line prior to the HEPA filter and after much use there is no sign of dirt on the HEPA filter pad.
Overall this unit is above average, if you can find it for the same price it is a steal. Great features, fantastic suction, and easy to clean since you can rinse the collection bin with water(be sure to dry it well to avoid damage). It generates a considerable amount of heat when running and some static on the canister that may "zap" the user when removing the canister. This is an affordable unit that performs like a high-end machine. You will not believe the dirt this monster will dig out until you try it yourself.
