| xynnypoop's Full Review: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK P2120 (FPCM20112) PC Notebook |
I have had my Lifebook for about 8 months now, and I got to say it is my favorite thing in the world. I take it everywhere and whenever I use it I have utter strangers coming up to me and saying "wow, I love that computer. What is it?" Once a man saw my computer, gushed over it, left and brought a friend a few minutes later to look at it. So I think it is time for me introduce this lovely but little-known device to the masses.
First, here are the technical specifications of my computer:
LifeBook P2120, 40GB, combo drive, wireless LAN
933MHz Crusoe TM5800 processor with LongRun Power Management
10.6" wide-format SXGA TFT
256MB memory²
40GB hard drive³
DVD/CD-RW combo drive
Modular 3.5" floppy drive
Built-in multinational4 56K5 V.90 modem
Built-in 10/100 Ethernet
Built-in Wireless LAN (802.11b)
Quickpoint pointing device with scroll button
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
M-Code FPCM20111
---------
Now that looks like a lot of things right? But the entire computer is only 3.4 pounds!! That's lighter than a 300 page hardcover book! It is rather amazing how compact and sleek this computer is.
For those wondering what a 933MHz Crusoe processor is, it is a very special CPU. I'm sure you've heard of Intel but you probably haven't heard of Transmeta. Transmeta is the company that makes the Crusoe chip and what is special about this chip is that it only uses 9 watts of power as opposed to 20 or 30 watts for a regular Intel chip. This makes your battery last a lot longer and avoids general heat problems. Basically you wouldn't have the problem of burning yourself with your laptop.
The screen is a cool 15 X 9 format. So you have a lot less black space when watching movings wide screen. It is also a pretty good screen that you can just spray a little windex on to clean.
The bulit in wireless feature is my favorite. It is not like other laptops where you plug in a wireless card, but this wireless card is built into the screen! It just looks like a tiny blue strip on the left of the screen and actually is better for receiving signals because it is higher off the ground. I use it anywhere wireless internet is available. Since I have a wireless access point at home, I can surf the net in bed with my little computer.
Now I've talked about some of my favorite features, I should talk about the functionality of this computer.
Well, if you're a hard gamer, this is not the computer for you. It has a Radeon Mobility graphics card which is quite good for normal activities but does not give you the in-your-face cutting edge 3-d acceleration of the higher power FX graphics cards.
However, if you are a business person, student, or someone who is always on the go and do not want to lug around a 10 pound laptop for your presentations and homeworks, this is perfect. It is really the best full-function ultra-portable computer money can buy. It has a full size keyboard that may take a little time to get use to due to a strange small right "shift" key, but once you're use to it you can type as fast as you can! The DVD/CDRW combo drive also takes care of your entertainment needs as it can burn CDS and play CDs and DVDs. You can opt to connect to the internet in three ways, through modem, ethernet LAN, or wireless. So basically you can go online whereever a phone, access point, or ethernet port is available!
For a small computer, it is also amazingly tough. I have dropped it by accident quite a few times and even though I thought it would shatter it survived without a dent. So if you're klutzy and careless like me, this is also a great choice.
In conclusion, I believe this computer would become your LIFEbook if you purchase it. I use it everyday and check my email before I go to bed... IN BED!! It's a fun little computer and I highly recommend it to all those that want something unique in their lives.
