I have always used ultra light laptops with a desktop as my working combination. I thought I would give a desktop replacement a try and have one system instead of two. With all choices in life, there was some good and some bad. Mostly good. This machine is truly as powerful as a desktop. I opted for the 2.4Ghz, with 40 gig drive and 512 RAM. More than enough power and storage for all my files, mp3’s and movies.
I run lots of graphics programs like Quark, Photoshop and Maya. So I needed a powerhouse. This machine performs wonderfully. And with the wireless card installed, I can work from anywhere now. The screen is big and brilliant. At almost 16” it is great for photo or video work, as well as watching a DVD. The keyboard is well laid out and key touch is nice and solid. The built in speakers are nice, but I prefer headphones or external speakers.
The design is nice, with lots of plugs to connect everything you could imagine. I opted for the port replicator, which was a wise choice. Now when at home, I just pop it on and use an external keyboard and mouse. Nice. I have no complaints about the performance or ergonomics of this machine. There is, however, a problem. It is damn heavy.
This bad boy weights in at almost ten pounds. It is a back breaker. Especially when you are used to an ultra light machine. So think carefully before you buy it, as it is very cumbersome to transport. Other than that, it is a great machine. I must mention that I have had a problem with the screen and had to send it for repairs. As with any laptop, buy the extended warranty.
