This laptop is the cheapest among its competitors. I bought this one from Bestbuy for $950.00. I had really hard time with gateway supplied Windows XP operating system. What I did was this. I tried to use recovery procedure to check how well it works. (Because I don't want to have problems, after I have all my data in the computer.) Everytime recovery procedure stuck giving error messages. Gateway tried to combine their software with windows XP to give a better output. However they failed in that side.
I already had Windows XP home edition. So after creating backup CDs of hard drive (Gateway provides blank CDs for backups!!!), I formatted C: drive and partitioned into 3 drives (80GB for one drive is too big for me) using windows XP CD. Then I installed Windows XP and all my software without any trouble. I used back up CD to install all drivers and other free software provided by Gateway. Now it works as a bullet. Through the history, Gateway has been not good in software area. But I don't have any complain about their system(hardware). It is really good. It is really worth to buy Pentium 4, 3.06GHZ 512MB 80GB 15.4 Widescreen CD/DVD RW with wireless LAN for $950 in July 2005
