| houseworker's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Scanjet 4670 Flatbed Scanner |
I bought this several years ago, and it leaves most flatbed scanners for dead. The ability to see exactly what you're scanning, and particularly the ability to separate the scanner from the 'lid' so that it will work just about anywhere. And it's a genuine flatbed; no rim round the edge that makes scanning oversize objects so difficult with the majority of scanners. The combined power and USB cable, easily disconnected when you don't want to keep it out on your desk. But why not keep it out anyway, it looks drop dead gorgeous and you can always pop a family photo in it.
If only the software were as good. It has had worsening compatibility problems with XP that require patching to fix. And worst of all it installs Share-to-Web software which is not optional, causes a lot of aggro, and is not that easy to get rid of. And HP are not supporting it into the Vista age, which is disgraceful for a premium product like this.
I'm sticking with XP for the forseeable future so Vista compatibility is not an issue for me. And I've never begrudged the price; I've never seen another scanner that would even start to tempt me to 'upgrade'. For XP users, I recommend this without reservation.
