Pros: Terrific, feature rich, low cost player with great playback and media compatibility
Cons: So-so remote that we don't use anyway and night light tray
The Bottom Line: For the cost, this player is an incredible bargain. Not only is it feature rich, but it plays flawlessly (no skipping).

| tjapkesg's Full Review: JVC XV-N50 DVD Player |
I generally prefer to be detailed with my reviews, but a lot has already been said about this DVD player.
Setup... easy
Picture... great
Sound... great
Scanning (Fastforward and review)... great
Slow Motion... great
Pet Peeves
Honestly, in the year and a half we've had this, I have had no real complaints whatsoever, but he's what we have:
The remote is simply OK, and doesn't hold a candle to the remote with our Sony DVP-S360... however, the S360 itself was junk. Which would you rather have? We never use the remote anyway.
I'm not a huge fan of the glowing disc tray either. You can dim the entire front display, but the display itself also dims. Ours is set in the middle, so the tray isn't a night light, yet you can read the text on the display.
Bells and Whistles
For the money, this thing has a surprising number. The aforementioned Sony player originally costed $225, and doesn't touch this sub-$100 player.
My 100%, total, complete, utter favorite feature: it stores resume data for up to 30 titles! I can toss in a movie (say at lunchtime), have my wife take it out halfway to play one of hers, plus watch other movies on the weekends... and yet, weeks later, I can put the first movie back in, and resume where I left off (as long as 30 other titles haven't been played of course).
#2 Favorite: it seemingly will read anything. Again, the Sony had trouble with 80% of the discs inserted; that's factory stamped DVDs, single layer, dual layer. Sometimes it wouldn't start playing a movie, sometimes it crashed in the middle of a movie, or it would skip back 5 chapters. The JVC has not skipped, had a misread, or anything of that sort. Its also far more capable of reading writable media.
It also sports progressive-scan, component video outputs, coax and optical digital outputs, zoom, MP3 playback... It is also very quiet.
As far as I'm concerned, there really is no features lacking.
