Sears Kenmore Quiet Supreme Dishwasher
When we lost our dishwasher(s) 8 years ago due to school, social activities and jobs, we decided we had to get a new one or mom and dad would be doing the dishes. We didn't have time either. (This may be just an excuse but sounds like a good one to me).
We had a Sears Dishwasher in our last home that out-lasted us there, so we once again headed to the nearest Sears store. We thoroughly checked all of their different brands in our price range, learned the pros and cons of each and finally decided that the Kenmore Quiet Supreme was exactly what we wanted. We have never regretted it.
The first thing we came to love about our Kenmore is that it lives up to its name, Quiet Supreme. It isn't as quiet as the ones in 2000 but we bought this back in 1992. Even though it's definitely louder than the newer ones, it still works for us. The swishing sound of the water during the wash and rinse cycle is actually quite calming. Also, we can still talk above it with no problem.
It has two tiers and upper and lower spray arms. This seems to work better than a one spray arm dishwasher as it hits the dishes in both the upper and lower sections. It does a great job of cleaning our dishes. I've found that today's dishwashers have a disposal system that collects any food left on the dishes, grinds it up, and down the drain it goes. Ours is not so equipped. When one of our old dishwashers (only 1 left at home) sometimes loaded it, food ended up stuck in the very bottom around the drain and the dishes looked worse coming out than going in. We now are careful to rinse them.
No time to wash the dishes now? A timer can be set for up to several hours in advance and the machine will automatically come on at the time set. Since we have a heat/water energy system in our home, we often set our timer for later in the evening when our system recycles itself. This way, we are sure to have the hot water needed for the dishwasher to do it's job.
One of the things I love is the reversible door panel. When we first got our dishwasher, we left in the black panel since that color fit into our color scheme. This past summer, we remodeled with white cabinets and lighter walls and floor, so we changed it to the white panel. WOW! How great to be able to do that! It looked as though we had bought a new dishwasher.
The only problem is when we turned it over to the white side, we noticed a bit of bubbling at the very bottom. It's not real noticeable yet but we think it will start rusting in another year or so. Considering that the water we use at home (well water) is extremely rusty, we often use a rust remover to clear the rust stains in our dishwasher. We actually thought that because of all the rust, our dishwasher wouldn't last as long as it has.
When we bought our Kenmore, we paid around $360 for it. We notice that a Kenmore like ours today runs for over $700.00.
As long as our Kenmore keeps working, it will stay with us. When it's done for though, I will anxiously head to Sears and pick out one with the newer features on it. I would love one that has a better disposal so we don't have to be so careful about rinsing. I won't enjoy the price tag on the new ones either but if we can get one like our current one, it will be well worth it.
