mleining's Full Review: Linksys EG005W 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch
It is working fine for me. I do not notice any fan noise as the other opinion noted. Maybe his has a bad fan (I did not even know it had a fan). I stack mine under my Linksys WRT54GS.
However, I cannot achieve even 50% utilization of the gigabit network, and I have fast computers and fast hard drives. I Purchased LinkSys gigabit PCI cards for my two systems which did not have Gigabit on the motherboard, and I think those are the weak links (limited by the PCI bus transfer rate). I suspect that I would see faster speeds if all computers had gigabit capability on the motherboard.
It is significantly faster than the 10/100 switch on the wireless router (which I still use for wireless connections), so it was worth the money to have my backups finish faster, and to transfer my large files more quickly (my time is valuable).
