| endurance's Full Review: Logitech MX 700 (930754) Mouse |
Since the days of 8086's, 286's, and up through the 10+ years I have been envolved with PC's you have always had the wire clutter of things like:
- Mouse
- Keyboard
- Power Cables
- Interface Cables
Cluttered up wires was always a problem, and unless you used wire ties day one to get things in order, you ended up with a nice tangled bunch of wires ;)
Well after recieving the MX700 as a gift I was very impressed. After seeing things that were IR based, I had been skeptical about ability of wireless mice/keyboards but this latest generation of hardware renews my faith that it may be possible.
The MX-700 comes with the following:
- Driver Disk
- Mouse
- Mouse Cradle (for recharging)
- Key part "REMOVEABLE" batteries
The use is simple, as noted in my cons this is not a mouse to be used right out of the box. Think of it as a cordless phone, you need to give it a solid charge before putting it to work.
After 12/24 hours (depending on your lifestyle of work / fun) you simply hit connect on the cradle, then connect on the mouse and your live ready to scroll, point, click.
The mouse comes with numerous buttons, of which coming from a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer I know are very very handy! Similar in concet as MS's mouse, however it does over not only a scroll wheel in the center, but scroll buttons as well! So you can scroll a page at the blick of a button. For programmable buttons it sure has a lot to program, but thats where my second 'con' comes in.
I run 2 PC's, Linux & Windows XP. While I knew that Linux would not have full support for all the buttons I wanted to use the mouse via my KVM (a device which allows both PC's to use 1 mouse, 1 keyboard, 1 monitor) I had expected problems from Linux but not XP. The issue was simple, the KVM while it supports a standard PS2 mouse, it only is setup to transmit certain things back.
XP simply reported my new MX as a Logitech Mouse. No extras, and the mouse software did not allow me full configuration of the mouse. So I hooked it directly into the PC, and removed the KVM's mouse lead and it works perfeclty so KVM users ou there your milage may vary!
Overall I must say this mouse is awesome, the comfort on the hand, the look of it, and for me the cost (FREE) was nice as well, however I would gladly pay full price for this mouse! Now I only have 1 problem, a wire on this darn keyboard!
