LILvoyce's Full Review: Martin Classical Backpacker Acoustic Guitar
I have to tell you that my family and I are really enjoying our Martin Steel String Backpacker. I am a owner of several guitars and had bought this one with a specific purpose in mind.
I bought it because my children and guests who come for a visit love to hear me play. While playing I am having to stop and put my guitar down and chaise after kids at the same time.
I am very picky when it comes to people picking up my guitar, touching it, or even coming close to them. I always have children wanting to come and strum my full size guitars.
I bought the Martin Backpacker Steel String Guitar so that when people come over I can just get this little compact size guitar out. It wasn't priced to bad at $250. Since I hadn't paid that much for it I wasn't to concerned when company wanted to play it.
I also bought this guitar because my daughter had expressed interest in playing. I remember when I was seven and started playing myself. I went from a really tiny guitar with a very small neck to a full size guitar. Going to a full size guitar really took a lot of adjustments on my part.
I went from a neck that would fit my hands just right to a larger neck. The Martin Steel String Backpacker might be small but it has a full size neck on it.
I thought that this would be easier for my child to learn on and then not having to make any adjustments for size when she gets older.
While this guitar is a Martin, I probably would not recommend this to a professional guitar player as they would be able to notice a difference in sound quality.
The Backpacker sounds okay. It is not the best but definitely not the worst. I would recommend this piece for people who are beginners or who are looking for something inexpensive.
I enjoy playing the Martin Steel String Backpacker while in bed. It is even small enough to recline in my recliner and play comfortably.
If you have back problems this would be a great little guitar. It does not weigh much and you are able to sit however you want to.
The backpacker that I have is sort of a Chestnut Brown color. I think that if they gave this guitar a little more color then it might interest younger people more.
Lastly, I would say that this guitar has held up quite well. It has been through many dings and still holds its tune well.
Don't be fooled by the diminutive size of the Martin Backpacker Acoustic-Electric Guitar. A braced, solid tonewood top with a solid mahogany neck, bac...More at Woodwind and Brasswind
