| rs2183's Full Review: Fujitsu Plasmavision PDS-4242 42 in. TV |
We just got the Fujitsu Plasmavision PDS-4242 into our showroom today. I don't believe we will be renting this bad boy out but we set it up with a wall mount in the showroom. This is a pretty high tech - good looking television.
Picture Quality
The quality of the picture was great. First we hooked it up to a normal DVD player using the S-Video, one of the many inputs on this television. The picture was very crisp and clear. In fact, comparing it to the other televisions in the showroom, this might be in the running for one of the best.
We then hooked up the television to a digital satellite connection. I had to adjust the factory settings here - brightness, etc. After that was done, the picture quality was perfect.
Sound
I have to recommend that you purchase the surround sound system specifically designed for this television. It really brings the television to life, both by making it looking really high tech and for the sound too. However, you can use your own surround sound system.
Looks
The TV itself looks pretty high tech. The actual frame is larger then the screen size which gives it a futuristic look. I found this television to be pretty eye appealing, especially with the stand and speakers.
Video Inputs
There are three types video inputs on this television. There is the component, composite, and s-video. They are all located on the rear of the television. I have tested all three types of inputs and the picture/sound quality is superb and all three.
There are also three kinds of computer signal inputs on this television. These computer signal inputs are RGBHV, VGA, and a DVI-D interface. However, I did not get to test the quality of these inputs.
Warranty
The television comes with - 3 Years Parts and Labor except the plasma screen element, which is only one year parts and labor. I did not get to test this either, nor did I try customer service, but this is available.
Misc. Features
There are different ways to view the inputs. However, I found that the normal (4:3) view is the best. The other ones include zoom 1, zoom 2, wide 1, and wide 2. The zoom option seems to be very extreme and cause a lot of detail to be lost when you use them. Wide 2 is preferable for a DVD input.
The menu is great and vast if the pre-set factory options are not appealing to you. I found that you will have to mess around with a few options to get the best picture from the television.
Set Up
The TV itself is not too heavy at 68 pounds. It is fairly easy to set up but that was only with the stand. I don't know how much luck you will have with the wall mount but I do recommend you have someone come and help you with it. I have friends who now have large holes in their living room walls.
Price
I found that this television is much too expensive. It compares well to other known models such as some Panasonic and NEC models. And those run a lot less then this. It seems fujitsu upgraded its prices with its new upgraded models.
Overall
This television is great! From every aspect I would say to purchase this TV but you can get the same features and quality with a lesser priced NEC.
