| lectersmeal's Full Review: NEC MultiSync LCD1765 17 inch LCD Monitor |
There are tons of LCDs on the market right now, but the moment these arrived on the sales floor at Circuit City, all of us in the computer department became instantly attached to these babies.
The Picture
The NEC 1765 has perhaps the best quality on an LCD that I've seen in a very long time. Unlike most LCDs, it has a very bright, colorful picture that picks up over 16 million colors with its 1280x1024 resolution.
The Design
Being female, of course I care about the design. The black frame around the LCD screen really emphasizes the vivid colors on the monitor.
The Protection
Aside from a 1-year warranty, this LCD actually has a built-in screen protector. There's no need to worry about finger prints (easy to wipe off), the spider effect (series of black dots all over your screen), or other problems related to the typical LCD. This monitor is built to last.
The Value
You can't beat $550 for the top of the line LCD. You'll pay that or more for a current HP or Compaq LCD, and you're not getting the color quality or protection.
The Flexibility
It's actually possible to detach the LCD stand and mount this LCD on the wall -- for the people that really need the desk space. Aside from that, the monitor can be positioned at many different heights to fit the area you're working with or preferred height.
The Simplicity
Needless to say, it's plug and play. So hook it up to your PC and go from there.
The Disadvantages
* While you can position the LCD at various heights, it can be a pain to adjust. The stand seems to be extremely stiff. It will take some playing with. But hey, at least you know it's sturdy.
* LCD are known for no glare, but with the built-in screen protection (despite it's anti-glare protection), you will still experience some glare.
* Also, be aware that this is a VGA, meaning it's analog and not digital. So if you require a digital connection, better look somewhere else.
Note: Mac users, don't think that this monitor can't work for you. Only thing you'll need is a VGA adaptor. Apple LCDs can be pricey, so this is a great alternative.
