Pros: Lives up to many claims, saw the planets and enjoyed using it.
Cons: Mounting is weak and shakes too much, lacks a good drive motor configuration.
The Bottom Line: Very Good Entry level to Intermediate level user Telescope.
Great optics, very durable and well built. But understand the mounting system will limit your photography abilities.

| belowhz's Full Review: Orion SkyView Deluxe 8 EQ Newtonian Telescope |
The family purchased the telescope 2 years ago for me. Overall I found it to be a very enjoyable telescope and one that I would strongly recommend over those Chain Store units we have all seen. It was expandable, adding additional lenses, camera T-Mount and etc with quick trip to the local Camera shop. The mounting and motor system was good for the price, but weak in that the mounts tremble very easily and the motor was a challenge to get at the right speed for making 10 second plus astrophotography shots. Once aligned it brought in the common planets and 12 magnitude stars with very good results. However finding and tracking objects was difficult because of the finder and alignment scope mounting adjustments. It is worth the extra $100 or so dollars over those Chain Store Telescopes.
