| goofyclue's Full Review: Palm Tungsten™ T3 Handheld |
I purchased my T3 online for $324. This was an upgrade from my M515. Overall, I like my T3. The new Palm OS 5 has greatly improved by PDA necessities. There are some fallbacks as I will describe.
The Pros:
1. The higher resolution of the screen almost photo quality
2. The ability to organize my schedule by color codes to distinguish my work, personal, and other schedules.
3. The new keylock feature, so your palm does not automatically turn on in your pocket or purse.
4. The integrated Documents, so you can review all your Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents. The Excel is fantastic on the T3, because of the longer screen and you can change your views from small, medium to large.
5. The RealOne program so you can listen to your MP3's. Two things to keep in mind if you are considering this PDA as a MP3 Player (a) You do not need to buy a separate MP3 Kit as long as you have a SD Card (hopefully a large one at least 256MB enough for 25 songs (b) The built-in speaker does no justice to the MP3's and eats up a lot of battery if us the speaker, but not the fret it does have a headphone jack.
Thing that are just "OK"
1. Kinoma Player: it plays movies, but you dont have access to any movies unless you purchase the Kinoma Player to convert other movie formats to Kinoma. Besides, I don't think many are seeking the T3 as a movie player.
2. Bluetooth: Unless you are a WIFI junkie, not much use for it.
3. Avantgo Users: Don't expect your screen to be expanded as much as the T3. Its only limited to the original palm-sized screen.
Things that are just "no good"
1. Older programs: Some older programs can not work in the OS 5 environment. For me about 10 of my applications doesn't work in the OS5, so either you need to upgrade your application, or junk it since many older application don't have an upgrade yet.
2. Photo: Integrated with the Palm Desktop, its does it function but there is no zoom function.
Overall: I would recommend the T3 as an upgrade to the older M500 series. I was never a fan of PC OS since Palm has a full recovery backup when my palm crashes.
