Pros: Has functioned with hard use for a year now with no problems.
Cons: No editing functions to hide commercials, etc.
The Bottom Line: For straight recording it's a good little workhorse.

| kcarlton's Full Review: Philips MDV630R DVD Recorder |
Being a self-described "expert" on the Philips/Magnavox recorders, I'd like to offer some praise for this little workhorse machine.
I have a HUGE vhs collection I have been trying to put onto DVD. I have owned 4 Philips 985s Two Magnavox 640s and also a 615/37.
EVERY machine I have purchased except this one has had to be returned for service with in 3 - 6 months and a new 615/37 (which was a replacement for my favored Magnavox 640) only lasted 2 months.
This little 630/650 Has been a staunch stallwart. It is almost a year old and has never hiccuped once. It plays every blank disk I give it, even ones that the other machines don't. It will read disks the others mess up and won't read.
The picture quality is great, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
For straight recording, from TV movies, etc. it's wonderful.
The ONLY con is that it does not have editing features to hide commercials, etc.
But.... I use the others for that..
I wouldn't trade this little machine for the world.
Maybe it's the fact that it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that keeps it functioning.
This one is a keeper.
