| Melissa_M's Full Review: Uniden EXAI 7980 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
I bought my Uniden EXAI7980 phone when I realized my old phone was being picked up by the cb operators down the road. 900 MHZ was my FIRST priority!
I also wanted some other features: answering machine, caller id on the handset and caller id for call waiting. The salesgirl was very helpful as we waded through all the options at my local supercenter. She gave me some great feedback on which phones were brought back the most and which were selling well, with few returns. I had used Uniden phones in the past, but, my latest one had been purchased for me as a gift. I was fine with the phone, till my neighbors told me they could hear any phone conversation I had with their cb.
The Uniden phone has now been in use for over a month, with plenty of tests to make sure my neighbors can't hear my conversations. So far, it is passing that test with ease. :)
This phone has an answering system that includes a pre-recorded outgoing message. Nice for someone who has no adult male in the house! It also tells me the time and date someone called when I play back a message.
The Uniden also includes caller id for any call that comes in. Since I have two phone lines, one for my business, I can tell who is calling even if I'm on the other line. This is a great feature for me since I answer my phone differently depending on who is calling. It also gives me a second to scream for silence if the kids are home during business calls.
The memory on mine will only hold ten numbers, but, it also holds the name with the number so that I don't have to remember who 863-555-1212 IS. I can look for the name of the person I want to call without having to remember their number first. For an absent-minded mom, this saves a couple of wrong-number calls a week.
The phone is comfortable to hold between your shoulder and ear if necessary, but, I really enjoy using the headset instead. The phone unit has an opening to plug in the headset, which means I can clip the phone to my belt and walk around the house while I'm talking. It also allows me to make and take business calls while I am sitting at my computer, very handy for scheduling. The headset was purchased separately, but, was worth the $15. My only complaint with the phone is that the instructions say to turn the phone to lowest volume to use the headset, and, in order to hear, I must turn it to the highest volume. Not a big problem, unless I worked in a noisier building.
Another nice, 'hands-free', feature to this phone is that you can answer the phone at the base. This is terrific if you've laid the phone down somewhere and want to answer it before the machine picks up! I frequently find myself hunting for the phone, only to find it 'hiding' on my belt! Whoops!
The phone unit itself is lightweight, easy to keep clean, and very sturdy. I purchased mine in white, but, other colors are available. My store did not have the black model, but, according to the salesgirl, they also carry it. The base unit is made to be either wall-mount or to sit on a desk. I have mine on a counter in the kitchen, and the phone can be charged face-up or down. My last cordless had to be facing up to charge, which made things difficult if someone put it on the charger wrong!
The charge on this phone lasts nearly 15 hours. I always place it on the charger when I go to bed at night, and remove it as soon as I get up in the morning. So far, I've had NO problems with the batteries dying during a phone call.
Overall, I really love this phone. The purchase price was fairly steep, around $150, but, the phone has been well worth it.
