Terrific $20 phone by Uniden. Good quality. Great price.

I needed a new cordless phone, and I didn’t want all kinds of buttons and features. I just wanted a phone that picked up good so I could hear the person on the other end. That was the problem with my old walk-around phone. I couldn’t half hear when I used the cordless, so I was stuck at the kitchen phone and tied to a cord that stays constantly kinked up. I don’t really like to talk on the phone anyway, and it just made matters worse when I couldn’t walk around and talk.
When I went online and starting reading up on the various models and checking prices, I noticed that Uniden was scoring higher with average consumers than some of the brand names I’m familiar with. Uniden was also one of the lowest priced phone lines. Like most people, I want a good product at a good price. I’ll spend more to get something better if I have to, but I won’t spend extra just for the name (especially if the “name” isn’t providing anything special).
My pick for our new walk-around phone was the Uniden EXP370. It’s the very basic model and priced at around $20.
The Uniden is small and takes up very little space. It’s about half the size of my old AT&T model. The receiver is around 6 inches, so it’s bigger than cell phones but certainly not huge. I don’t really like the micro models where it’s hard to hit the correct buttons. My thoughts are that this phone is perfect in size. Not too big. Not too little.
The phone slips into a little pocket to charge up. My old phone did not have the extra pocket shape and often did not line up the way it should. Then, it would go dead. This one is idiot proof. When you put it in the pocket, it lines up and charges. When you first get the phone, you need to put the battery in and let it charge overnight before using the unit. After that first good charge, you can talk all day (up to 10 hours I think) and charge at night.
When a call comes in, the ring is loud and high pitched. It sounds kind of like a bird tweeting. I’m used to a lower pitch on the ring, but it’s easier to hear this higher pitch. It’s also easier to pinpoint where the phone may be hiding. My boys are not good about putting the phone back on the unit or where it might be logical to set a phone.
The reception is excellent. I can now hear anyone calling in—even callers who almost whisper when they call. The phone automatically searches for channels for good reception, and the sound is very clear and loud. You can set the sound level, but I’ve been satisfied with the factory setting on that.
A few consumers said that the phone didn’t “reach” very far. I can carry it all over my house and out in the yard with no problem. If you live in a mansion, then perhaps reach would be an issue. It certainly works fine over the half acre where I live. I carry it out to the shed when I need to talk about things the boys don’t need to hear (like what Santa is bringing).
There are a couple of extra features on the phone. One is a button to locate the handset when you can’t remember where you (or the kids) put it. I like that. The other is “rocket dial.” You can program in 10 numbers and use one button dialing for the numbers you call a lot. I don’t use that feature. It only takes a couple of seconds to dial numbers, but if you want to set the numbers, then you can.
The only thing I don’t like about the phone is the color. It comes in white. My neutral color at home is off-white, and white makes off-white look dirty. White also shows dirty finger prints, and I must say that my boys manage to leave a lot of those around the house and on this very white phone.
The Uniden 370 is a terrific phone. It’s not fancy. It’s just a basic phone. It does not have all kinds of buttons and features. If you just want a phone to carry around the house, then this is a good pick. I’m been very happy with the phone. It’s the best $20 I’ve spent in a long time.
