| myheartx4's Full Review: Vtech VT 1920 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
I purchased the VTech 1920C in January 2000, and I have not had the great exerience with it that most of the other Epinioners have had.
I find the phone is uncomfortable to hold with your hand, and almost impossible to hold with your shoulder. It is also relatively heavy, so if you use a headset with it, and clip it to your waistband, you will often find it is tugging your shorts down.
I bought it because it had many features I wanted, such as 900 mhz, headset capability, Caller ID/Call Waiting in the handset, 20 number redial, mute, etc. Those features all work well, and it is easy to learn to use them. The manual is very easy to understand.
My first gripe is that it does not have a channel button. The reason i bought a new phone was because my neighbor and I frequently ended up on the same channel, and could eavesdrop on each other's conversations with my old phone. Well, it happens with this one, as well. Only now, I can't push a button and change my channel. It also frequently decides to change channels on it own, in the middle of a conversation. It is extremely annoying to be on the phone, especially long distance, and have the 1920C start channel searching. It sometimes takes as much as a minute for it to settle on a new channel.
The range of this phone leaves MUCH to be desired. I had a bottom of the line AT&T 900 mhz cordless prior to this one, and it could reach my mailbox (approximately 60 yards from the base) with no problems. This phone just can't hack it. It cuts out about halfway to the box. My home is cinder block, and often, just going into another room, the phone will cut out. Even within 10 feet of the base, I find it occasionally will "lose itself". I can step one foot in a different direction, and it will work fine. Quite annoying when trying to do other things while talking on the phone. It frequently will not work on my back porch, which is 15 feet from the base, with just one wall in between. My children spend a lot of time outside playing, and I usually sit on the porch with them, so this is a real problem for me.
I do have to say, I have never had static on the line, it is always crystal clear, and when the phone works (no cutting out, channel changing) it is very nice. I LOVE the Caller ID/Call Waiting feature being on the handset.
Overall, though, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
