Pros: This is the best idea to hit the video/home theater market in years.
Cons: Very expensive. Cannot edit commercials.
The Bottom Line: The Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD is easy to learn and easy to use. It provides full Tivo functionality, and it seemlessly combines Tivo's intuitive menus into a DVD recorder/player.

| Howie11239's Full Review: Pioneer Elite DVR-57H (120 GB) DVD Recorder |
Other than its forboding price, there is nothing scary about the Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD. It is, in fact, built upon the standard Tivo software, which is designed to make life easier for its users.
The unit serves as a DVD recorder, DVD/MP3/CD player, and as a Tivo Personal Video Recorder with a 120gb hard drive. It allows for up to 120 hours of recording on the Tivo, which remains the freshest concept in video in quite some time. Basically, Tivo allows you to record your favorite shows, but it also selects shows it thinks you might enjoy based on your recording habits. It holds the shows on the hard drive, and erases old shows as needed to make space for new ones. On this model, one can easily download a recorded show onto DVD or VHS so that it becomes part of one's personal video collection.
The great news is that the ease by which this is done makes the unit a must have for people who love to record programs and have no patience to fiddle around with multiple pieces of equipment. Also, recording onto DVD results in very high quality images and limits the amount of storage space required.
The unit comes with a Tivo "peanut" remote. It is comfortable and easy to use. On the downside, users of other Tivo models will have a bit of a learning curve since some of the buttons on the remote have been relocated to allow for the DVD functions. On the plus side, the software and on-screen menus are easy to use and learn.
This is a top quality Pioneer product. The two-year warranty has it hands down over Tivo's 90 day warranty on its own branded products. I cannot be effusive enough in describing how happy and satisfied I am with this product.
