| meleahk's Full Review: Epson Stylus® CX5200 All-In-One InkJet Printe... |
Well as promised the review about the new printer! I am so glad I made the choice I did with this printer for it is just simply wonderful!
The colors are spectacular, the scanner is to do die for and the copier is just simply wonderful! It is so very easy to use that my 9 year old can use it. However, I do recommend not leaving a child alone with it until they completely understand how to use it.
The Product
Epson® Stylus CX5200 is a multi function printer that copies, scans and prints all in one! It has a PC free black and color copying with up to 15 copies per minute in black text. It has DuraBrite inks that are water resistant and fade resistant as well.
There is an Ultra-Fast printing at up to 22 ppm black and 10.5 ppm color. This is really cool! And is one of the reasons I chose this printer. My daughter told me this was the way to go. She helped me pick this printer out when I ordered it and my new computer at www.dell4me.com.
There are also cost saving ink cartridges in black, yellow, magenta, and cyan, which if you look around you can find them for around 8 bucks each, except for the black, which you can find for around 19 dollars. I have found the best price for these cartridges at www.101inks.com.
There is also a 48 bit color scanning with 1200 x 2400 dpi with 5760 x 1440 optimized dpi using RPM® (Resolution Performance Management,) which my daughter told me was better than most.
Smart Panel
It also has the Epson® easy to use multi functional Smart Panel software. Smart Panel allows you to make an icon on the desktop and when you click it you will be taken to an area for your printing needs that allows you to Scan to Web, Photo Print, Scan for Creativity, Scan to File, Copy, Scan to OCR (Optical Character Recognition), Scan to Email, Scan to Application and Copy to Fax. Pretty cool uh!
When you are using the Smart Panel you will find each of the above applications will have their own little icon within a box. Click the one of interest and then go from there. For instance I wanted to send my daughter a picture of her children that we had taken of them and me while they were here. Now mind you I did mail her copies but I wanted to try the new scanner out. So I did. The process was very easy. I simply put the picture of choice into the scanner, by lifting the lid and placing the photo inside, closing the lid and then going to Smart Panel and choosing an option. I choose to Scan to Email. However, I dont have Outlook Express®, so I then chose to Scan to File. I was able to scan the pictures and save them to a file on the computer to send via email later. The process was very easy I just had to push a button and the printer did the rest.
The pictures were high quality, which I was very happy to see. They looked very professional.
Other Stuff
The printer of course also prints out very vibrate colors and high quality prints. Whether its coupons, documents or pictures. No problems at all and all very easy to use.
To make a copy of anything I simply put the chosen work to be copied where the scanner is at by lifting up the scanner lid, placing the document there and closing the lid, hit copy, which is found on the top of the unit. I can copy black and white or color, there are buttons for each.
There are also buttons for Scan, Recall/save 3 secs Menu and Copier Value. There is also an LCD screen to see what is going on. You will also receive error messages here, and the error light will light up should there be an error.
When I first installed the Epson® CX 5200, I had error messages all over the place! I had to call Epson®. But as it turned out, the Windows XP® software conflicts with the Epson® Software, so I was instructed to hit okay as each error came up! I was so relieved too because I just new I had been sent a bad printer!
How I Feel
Well I am certainly impressed! I have also found that I can scan a lot easier by just pressing the Scan button on the printer, the Smart Panel will open up and I can go from there. Or as mention above I can click the icon I made on the desktop.
The photos that I have made copies of for family have came out very well. The photo paper I picked up at Wal-Mart for 5.00 for 20 sheets did an excellent job. I have found it to be very high quality photo paper. The colors are the same as the actual picture, which surprised me.
The copies of my Bible Class lessons have came out very clear. No smudges at all!
I have also ordered back up cartridges to have on hand as needed. Oh yeah, the printer will also show a brief pictures of the cartridges right before the printing starts that allows me to see how low the cartridges are getting. This is very neat!
I have so far been very happy with my Epson® Stylus CX 5200 multi function printer, scanner and copier.
We paid $199.00 with free shipping and handling and we also got a rebate of 39.00, which was taken off at the time of sell. The Dell site was very easy to get around and selecting this printer and our new computer. Customer Service at Epson® was very helpful and very friendly. However, I did have to call direct for no 800 number is available for Tech support, which I think is a rotten thing for Epson to do. But, thus far this is the only complaint I have. I did suggest to them that they should warn people about the conflict between the Windows XP® software and the Epson® software, would save them time and the consumer money!
I made copies of my daughters pictures and the quality was outstanding! And that cheaper paper! The color was just like the original pictures and now the family can get a great copy of a great picture. And hardly any ink was used! That I really liked!
The directions were very easy to follow in taking the unit out and hooking up. You also get the USB cord, which you do not connect to your computer until you are told to do. And you should put the unit where you can rely on it to stay put! When the unit first takes a piece of paper to copy there is a little loud sound, but the printing, scanning and coping makes no or little sound. Very quiet machine over all.
You can also go to the website at: www.epson.com for questions or concerns that need to be answered. Its cheaper! Of course www.dell4me.com can answer some of your questions.
I am hoping to have years of pleasure from this printer.
I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.
God Bless!
