Pros: Built in HDTV decoder
Cons: No video outputs
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended. It's the largest widescreen picture tube on the market at 38" and it has the DTV/HDTV tuner already built in.

| bxbomber4's Full Review: RCA F38310 38 inch TV |
I purchased the RCA F38310 in March of 2002 so I've had it long enough to have a good feel for it. Let me say that I bought this TV with a bit of trepidation. I read reviews about this TV from people who owned it and although the majority of them were positive there were enough negative ones to cause me some concern, after all this is a pretty large investment, at least for me it was. I read reviews by some home theater publications who labeled it as being ahead of its time and "if you're looking for a TV that won't become obsolete for the next 10 years this is the one". Still I struggled with the decision, I had narrowed it down to the F38310 and Sony's 40" XBR. The Sony while being HDTV capable did not have the decoder built in (a set top box is required and is an additional approx. $500.00)and is not widescreen but it was a flat screen and it was a Sony. In the end the RCA just had too much going for it and I purchased it through Amazon figuring if I had any problems it wouldn't be an issue returning it. The TV comes with a 1 year in-home warranty and I just received from RCA a brochure offering an extended warranty for up to an additional 3 years for approx. $575.00. To date the TV has performed flawlessly. I hooked the TV up to Directv and the picture quality is excellent. Programs broadcast in HDTV are breathtaking, they give the impression of being 3 dimensional. I have a progressive scan DVD player also hooked up to it and again the quality is incredible. The only negative is the lack of video outputs making recording impossible. The fact that the cooling fan runs 24/7 is of no consequence to me since the TV is far away enough that I don't hear it late at night, but I probably will extend the warranty because of it. I've had friends and relatives over and watched them sit in awe of the picture quality. I have been to the local Best Buy and have yet to see a picture on any TV that can produce the quality of the F38310. I feel like I made an excellent choice and am very happy with RCA and specifically the F38310.
