| LILvoyce's Full Review: SAFETY 1ST Disney Umbrella 01-814PBT Stroller |
I had received a full size stroller for a shower gift from a family member. It has all the bells and whistles one could ask for. The problem with it, is that it is too heavy, and takes up to much room in my Pontiac Sunfire. I already have speakers in the trunk which already take up enough room. Folding and unfolding my full size stroller is a chore, not to mention a pain on my back. I had an umbrella stroller with my previous children, and I knew that I had to have one with my newest addition.
Product Description
I purchased the Safety 1st Disney Umbrella Stroller at Walmart. I couldn't beat the price at only 14.99. There was another stroller their that was only 10.99, but that one was blue. I wasn't sure if it had the umbrella top or not, so I went with the Safety 1st Disney Umbrella Stroller.
The Safety 1st Disney Umbrella Stroller is just a basic no frill, umbrella stroller. It has more durable wheels than the the cheapest model I had looked at in Walmart. It is sort of a light green in color, The seating feels like the consistency of a sheet. It is decorated with a picture of Tiger, and Pooh over a blue and white pattern.
The handles are padded in a soft flexible foam material, and there are bright red brakes on the rear of the stroller. The seat belt is green and very basic.
This stroller will collapse into a nice small bundle with grips so it does not open unless you want it open. The hood is made of about the same material, in a light green. In the middle of the hood is a see through piece of plastic, resembling a window so that you can see your child through it.
Dislikes
My baby is still a bit small to go for long stroller rides. I live in Florida, and its just to hot and the sun is a bit much at times. This company had a nice idea by placing the little see through window on top of the hood. You can peep through to make sure your child is sitting properly. The problem I have with it, is I am wondering how much sun can go through that little window, and possibly sunburn my baby? Even with using a sun hat, there are shoulders, and arms that can still be exposed. I am wondering if this top can magnify the heat? For the price I paid for it, I don't have a huge problem with it. I could probably find something to cover it, but I am wondering what other parents had thought of it? The point of having a hood is to keep your child out of the sun right? I will use more caution since she is so young.
Also, this product did not come with any cleaning instructions. I don't mind because it is so easily replaceable for the price I paid.
I don't feel that this stroller is as safe as a regular stroller when in the grocery store. People can be crazy with the shopping carts when they shop, and are in a hurry. I don't want someone to bump her. I use extreme caution. I don't worry as much with my larger full size stroller, because it is heavier and has a foot rest where this one does not.
Likes
The stroller is cute, and so is the little window on top. It is not really boyish, or girlish looking. Closing the stroller took a bit of time to figure out, but once I did, its a breeze to open and fold. It can fit in a shopping cart, and in the back of my trunk. It is nice and compact enough I can hide it in the closet, or elsewhere in my home.
The weight of this stroller is so perfect for me. I have a hard time lifting and this works well for me. The baby does not seem to mind it one way or the other. She fits in it pretty well for a newborn, but she was larger than most. The seat actually cups her little bottom enough for me to feel comfortable. I don't feel like she can fall forward, while properly restrained. I can add additional support to her head with a padded, neck support that I had to purchase as an addition. It fits in there fine. The seat belt is adjustable.
Pushing her in this stroller comes very easy. The wheels are not so cheaply made that I would have any problems so far. The brakes are easy to push with my feet. They are fairly sturdy. She seems calm and content, and not uncomfortable while in this stroller. She is around 8 weeks old now. So please take weight into consideration when purchasing. She is about 13 pounds now. So she is pretty light. I am five feet and one inch tall, so to me the handles are a bit higher than I would like, but so is everything normally. We have no problems with inclines or making turns. She rides pretty smooth.
Overall?
This is a pretty nice product for small rides. It does not have all your bells and whistles, such as built in toys, and cup holders. It is very basic, and inexpensive. I would recommend it.
