Pros: Clean, sharp print.
Cons: NO heavy paper, power glutton (made my lights dim when running), first page slow
The Bottom Line: If you want this printer for paper prints, it's good value for the money. If you plan on printing on anything heavier than standard paper, it's a waste.

| levi777's Full Review: Samsung ML1740 Laser Printer |
This printer does NOT handle card stock at ALL. And you can't find that information ANYWHERE except on the CD included with the printer.
My fiancee and I bought this printer with the intent of printing our own wedding invitations. If you're thinking about it, don't.
Unfortunately, I waited too long to test its capabilities. I found that the printer left a "ghost" image of the text lower on the invitation stock. I was unsure of what caused this, and tried several other card stocks. I pulled out the setup guide that was included in the box and found no information about paper weight capacity. I looked at Samsung's website and again found no information about paper weight limitations (but it did claim to handle all kinds of paper sizes). I finally called tech support late in the evening and was connected quickly - which was the only good part of my experience.
The representative said that the printer could not handle paper heavier than 43 pounds and that this information WAS included in the user's manual. I found out later (by the rep's direction) that the user's manual is on the driver CD included with the printer. There it was, on page 41 of the pdf of the user's manual. When asked if there were any other place to find out the paper weight limitation, he could not tell me. He looked on the website himself and he had me pull out the box. The ONLY place I could have found this spec was in the user's manual on the CD in the printer box. After I bought it.
By the time all of this took place, the 14 day return period was past and I could not return the printer.
I left a voicemail with a manager at Samsung and have not been contacted. If I am, I will let you know.
We will end up paying someone to print our invitations along with having to pay for the Samsung.
