| henryy's Full Review: Samsung SyncMaster 171 17 inch LCD Monitor |
This is my first LCD screen and I am happy to say that this is going to be the only screen for me for a long time to come. When the screen arrived, I was annoyed with the height of the screen, and the lack of way to shorten it. Putting that misgiving aside, I hooked up the screen on my system and gave it a go. Boy was the screen bright. My old screen was a Sony Multiscan 200 17" and this Samsung 171s just seems so much bigger. The resolution takes some getting used to. At first you would swear that the resolution on the CRT tubes are better than the LCD. Well, that might be because you are seeing the pitch of the CRT scan while the LCD gives you the actual pixel.
The adjustment system on the screen can be summed up in one word: sucks. Thanks to the auto setup key, you don't have to do very much adjusting. In fact, you can't adjust the screen better than the auto adjustment. Trust me I tried.
The color does seem weird. It seems like the highlights are saturated. There is a program called "NaturalColor" but I have not yet had a chance to try it. It is so bright I'm sure you can darken it some and get a good gamma correction.
Another thing I had to complain is the fact that it is not supplied with digital video out, which some new video cards are adopting. And the power cord is a strange format.
Aside from all the complaints I have, it is a great screen and I'm loving every moment with it. I would definitely recommend it.
