snorkel4224's Full Review: Fujitsu fi-4750C Flatbed Scanner
The Fujitsu fi-4750C is Fujitsu's color version of the popular m4097dm series of scanners. It offers almost identical features, with the only major change being it's ability to scan in color. Which is okay, because there was really no design changes needing to be made to the older model. It is by far one of the best auto-feeding scanners on the market. Especially if you are working with ripped and torn documents, as the Fujitsu has a very small paper path for a document to become jammed in, unlike other auto-feeders like the Canon's that typically have an unnecessarily long paper path.
The biggest problem with this scanner is the drivers. My old 4097dm was destroyed in shipping, so I upgraded to the 4750C hoping that Fujitsu would have fixed some of the driver woes that plagued the 4097dm. Unfortunately they somehow managed to make things worse. These are without a doubt the absolute worse drivers ever created. The TWAIN drivers are incomplete and you'll find yourself making several trips to google to find files that are necessary just to complete the installation.
The TWAIN installer is written in broken English, the error messages (and you'll be seeing plenty of them) are all in Spanish, yet the uninstaller is in perfect English. The written instructions that came with the scanner are an absolute joke. The 6 step "Quick Setup" instructions only tell you how to get Windows to stop detecting it as a new device by disabling it in your device manager.
The ISIS drivers seem to be complete, but I had difficulty getting them to work with any software other than the program that came with the scanner. Unfortunately the software that came with the scanner, QuickScan Pro, is only a 30 launch demo and after it expires they expect you to fork over $1400 to register it. And while the software is functional, it CERTAINLY isn't worth $1400. Also, the ISIS drivers do not allow you to input a custom page size to scan, so you are stuck with their very limited pre-set page sizes. If you need to scan past 10" in width with any significant length.. well.. good luck.
This is a very good scanner that is left almost worthless by it's TERRIBLE drivers. Fujitsu needs to give their hardware people a big healthy raise, and then sack their programmers.
The Fujitsu fi-4750C scanner is ideal for applications that demand uncompromising quality, performance and flexibility from document scanners. The aff...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
