tomashatala's Full Review: Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 7 Full V...
I am a student, and I have purely wanted Dragon Naturally Speaking for my fiction writing purposes. I am an excellent typist (about 80 WMP with very little errors),but I still find that typing can be rather stressful, and I lose concentration, and my train of thought when I have to correct my mistakes. Therefore, Dragon appealed to me.
I bought the preferred version, as I saw no extra use in Professional, and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. I also had to upgrade my computer's Ram, so the program would run decently, at the warnings of others. I installed the program, and started playing with it... it was indeed fun.
I completed about 10 hours of reading training (it was advised to do so), and then I tried to write a couple of things... it went okay, but some things were clearly wrong.
The program leaves out some things, and mixes some of the more commonly used words (when, then, etc...) However, this improved with very little usage.
I have not been using Dragon Naturally Speaking extensivelly, so I am not sure what its full power can be. As I had bought it for fun, I was pleasantly surprised at my first encounter with voice recognition... This is a fun product, even if you are not really in need of it. However, I was quick to realize that I can only dictate something that I already have written down by hand. The train of thought is not fast enough to keep up with speech without first thinking it over.
I am writing a novel now, first on paper, and then I transcribe it.
Get this product if you wish to have fun, and perhaps make your work a bit more productive.
T.H.
(PS - when you are really just wanting to transcribe some text, just switch on Microsoft Word, or some text editor, and no other programs, as this will speed up the program {especially the corrections} considerably... and correct, correct, and correct... that is the main way the program gets better!)
