After 25 Years making Flight sims, Microsoft came out with its newest version MSFS X . While their other fight sims added better graphics, more planes and tutorials MSFS X Adds way more in the form of Missions. Many people who are hardcore flight simmers will look at this as a change from pure flight sim to more of a video game/sim.You must go on different missions such as putting out a fire from a helicopter, landing on a carrier and so on. But The games main appeal will be its unbelievable detail of the envirement boasting 6000 objects per square mile including traffic on roads , sea creatures, boats,docks telephone poles and many more items. The graphics on buildings and terrain have also been greatly improved with almost photorealism in some areas such as water in fact The water effects are the best I've seen since Far cry. All these improvements come at a huge price though. Running a Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz machine with a 6800 card/128mb ,The game defaulted to low graphics in all areas. Trying to bring them up ended up in Major drops in frame rates. The game runs, but looking at a slideshow is not the ideal sim. Anyone thinking of buying this title should have the following system specs: Pentium 4 Duo core system with 2 gigs Ram and a great video card such as the 7800. The system requirements on the box are misleading and already drawing complaints.
One day these specs will be the norm, but for now most people should not even try running this sim on their current system. MS Has themselves said this Simulator is for Future PC'S Looking towards Vista Upgrades and Direct X 10.
MSFS X Is an awesome improvement its just too bad most peoples hardware can't run it the way it should.
