andrew12's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P73 Digital Camera
The Sony P70 series has been going 5 years or so, and has been a big success, but was there enough of an upgrade in the DSC-P73 from the DSC-P72? I'd say so. However there are some downgrades in order to keep the good price.
Firstly, the photo quality has improved thanks to 4 megapixels versus 3.2 . Also, Sony has improved its focusing system, giving shots a crisper look. The colors look about the same, which are realistic and generally full of bite. Compared to the Canon A70 which a friend owns; photo quality was about the same, only Sony was more realistic, where Canon was more sharp, bursting color.
The speed of the camera has improved. It is now a faster power on, allowing you to take those snapshots I couldn't take with my DSC-P72 last year. Focusing and zoom speed is now better as well, and is overall better then most 3-4 megapixel cameras in its class.
The new design of the Sony's is more fun looking. It is also easier to use, as the buttons are placed in more logical places, and are very EASY to use compared to other digital cameras I have tried. The size of the camera is quite small; and the weight is light compared to almost all other cameras in its class.
However, this year Sony has kept the same price, but in order to do that they made some downgrades. The quality of the plastic this year just feels cheaper in your hands. But the main this is the quality of the LCD display, it is about half of the pixels compared to last years model, and is noticeably less quality when looking at the photos you took.
I like how you can take photos, although there are not a lot of options for skilled photographers, the automatic setting is one of the best I've ever used. It's good at detecting colors, light and subjects. There are different settings; such as "snow, night etc." for better shots in different situations.
The software was pretty bad. It was hard to install and use, and doesn't have too many functions. I'd recommended buying Adobe Elements 2.0 .
Overall, I like this camera. Its small, takes superb photos, quick speed and for a good price. Also, battery life for once was good! Not a bad deal at all!
