hydrogen_wv's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P73 Digital Camera
I bought this camera a year ago when I purchased my laptop. I had been wanting a digital camera and this one was priced pretty low. I would have liked to get an SLR but those cost much more.
I moved to this camera from a Canon Rebel G (35mm SLR). There are some features on that camera that I wouldn't mind seeing on this, but you can't expect a $300 Digital Point and Shoot to have the same features as a $300 35mm SLR.
Very quickly, I must point out, if you are looking forward to the 6.4x Zoom, forget about it. The zoom after 3.0x is horrible. That was one perk when I bought it that I liked, and came to find out that to get good quality pictures with more than 3.0x zoom, I had to buy the 2.6x telephoto lens (which, with the adapter, ended up being about $150).
The flash is another point of this camera that lacks. A better flash would make this camera much more useful. When taking a picture from more than about 5-6ft. away, the flash either only partially lights the "target" or doesn't light it at all.
One feature I think this camera could use (that others at a similar and even lower prices have) is the ability to use it as a webcam, but I can get a webcam at Walmart for about $15 if I really want one.
The video feature of this camera is excellent. When coupled with a 2.6x telephoto lens and full (3.0x) zoom, you can get right up on the action in most cases. The video quality is pretty good also. On a 128mb Memory Stick, I can capture about a half hour of video. In most cases that is sufficient.
A few other nie features are the Black/White pictures, and the Sepia Tone pictures. You can take really classy looking pictures with these features. It also has a feature to take "burst shots" (i'm not sure exactly what it's called), where it takes 16-32 images at about 250-500 millisecond intervals, and displays them in one image. Nothing exceptionally useful, but neat none the less.
The camera also features a/v out w/ mono sound. You can display pictures on TV, or view the viewfinder on the screen. I used to love this feature on older video cameras. It's always neat to see yourself on the Television. ;)
With all these features, and not many cons, this is a great digital camera for anyone except people wanting professional quality images. Not to mention all the fun accesories for this camera... Underwater Kit, Filters, Lenses, etc...
Just go buy one! :P
