beim4's Full Review: Sony Grand WEGA KF-42WE610 42 in. HDTV-Ready LCD T...
When I first purchased this TV I listed a review & was very satisfied with the TV. However, 2 years later we've run into problems - like so many others. We have now experienced the lamp problem. At first our TV was not coming on. The green standby light just kept flashing. You could reset it by unplugging/plugging the TV back in and at first that worked. Having Circuit City's extended warranty, we placed a service call. WARNING: your call will be answered by someone in another country, then you wait a few days for a call back. Then you wait again until they contact a repair company that they subcontract out. Then you wait for them to schedule a service call. The days of the local TV repairman are long gone! So if you're lucky, someone might come take a look at your set in a couple weeks. When the tech arrived, of course our TV wouldn't duplicate the flashing light issue, since it was a sporadic thing. The tech was not familiar with the problem & said he needed to contact Sony's technical department for advice, then would get back to us. OK, we're still feeling patient at that point because the TV was working. A couple weeks later the red lamp light came on. We called, and after passing us around again, we were shipped a new lamp. We thought maybe that was the real problem & we'd be OK now. No such luck. Again the green light started flashing & the TV wouldn't come on until we reset it. Now after a few weeks of that, the red lamp light is back on and the TV won't turn on no matter what we do. So we're back to waiting on Circuit City's phone procedures - call them, they call you, etc, etc. We were told they wouldn't ship another lamp since the other one should have lasted longer than 3 weeks. Has anyone else remedied this issue? Has Sony released a product fix to the service technicians so they can fix this issue? There is reference to the green flashing light on Sony's website, but they just suggest resetting it or calling for service. Right now we are missing our local team playing in the World Series, so my husband is not too happy, to say the least. Our patience has run out.
