Pros: Price, quality sound, crisp highs and smooth lows, space efficient and look good.
Cons: None considering it's a 30w total output system with basic controls.
The Bottom Line: Great entry level 2.1 speakers, inexpensive and nice appearance. Sound is clean and solid through entire range.
Will thump without disturbing the neighbors.

| cudaviper's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS201 2 Speakers |
GENERAL:
The Yamaha 201 speakers have an excellent sound, very tight, with a great high range and solid sub bass. I own several speaker units including the Altec Lansing ACS46, 2 ACS48s, 2 ACS340s, and the Logitech Z-340, along with the Yamaha 201s, and given their total wattage output, I would not have a problem recommending these to anyone desiring high quality sound. These are not window shakers but the sound reproduced is clean and clear throughout the very adequate volume range.
CONTROL FEATURES:
Nothing fancy here, at all. A large, easy to grip, on/off switch also doubles as the volume knob. I prefer to have a separate on/off switch and would like to have seen a treble and bass adjustment knob. But not really an issue given the low price. No headphone jack. They have a green indicator "ON" light. The sub has a separate volume control on back. Setup is easy and straight forward. And the 201s come in solid black or off-white. The sub is a square cube, made of wood with the satellites being taller than wide. They look very nice too. If space is an issue, these will work out great.
SOUND:
The satellites sound good and crisp and come with enough speaker cord for good separation. The bass is solid and tight. Fairly deep sounding for a 4.5"speaker and smooth as silk but still can thump the floor too. All in all, you won't be disappointed in the speakers, and very pleased with the clean sound. These are an entry level 2.1 system for Yamaha and I'm not going to be critical about them on their volume output. Please keep in mind, these have 30 watts total output, which to many, will be plenty.
PERSONAL NOTE:
So lets keep this in the right prospective. These are very clean sounding speakers. It wouldn't be fair to compare them to anything other than a same spec speaker system. And with that in mind, I would put them up against any other 30watt system. For clarity, A+, for power, B. For value, A. I think I paid about 30 dollars for this set, on sale, retail box. If your looking for a good 30 watt system, one that's not going to have to be as loud as it needs to sound clear, this is going to fulfill all your needs. And it "can" get respectfully loud.
