I was very disappointed to see that Sprint even sells such a poor product. There are a lot of good ideas on this device, however not one of them is implemented properly.
Take for instance the hand writing recognition. It is probably only about 50% accurate. The percentage goes up as it learns and if you are very neat. However there are two things that keep that from happening.
Number one, although it learns over time, whenever it has to be reset it seems to forget everything it has learned. And unfortunately it has to be reset about once a week under normal usage, more if it is used a lot.
Secondly, if any part of your hand touches the screen while you are writing it assumes that the stylus has instantly jumped there instead of continuing from where it was previously. Since the screen is so sensitive there is no place to steady your hand and neat writing becomes very difficult.
There are many other things I do not like about this phone. I will try to list some of the more frustrating ones here:
1. It can not be used as a phone that you hold up to your ear. It can only be used as a speakerphone or with an ear bud.
2. The button to record memos is located in a bad spot, so that when the phone is pulled from its case to answer a call it accidentally gets pushed and jumps to the Notes screen. By the time you navigate back to the phone screen you have missed the call.
3. Also the record button will be depressed by accident when it is just sitting in its case and it will record until it runs out of memory or battery.
4. The phone buttons on the screen are very hard to dial without the stylus, making one handed dialing next to impossible.
5. It is very big and heavy for a phone.
6. The interface is not intuitive. This also affects any programs that are run on the device.
7. After browsing a few web pages, the browser will inexplicably become unable to retrieve any more. The only solution I have found is to disconnect and the re-connect to the internet.
These are just a few of the things I hate about this phone. I do have some good things to say, but that is about Sprint PCS, not the phone itself.
I have been pleased with Sprint's service. Although there coverage area isn't as complete as some other companies, I rarely am in the roam areas, even when I travel.
Customer service is always very responsive and helpful. I have never had to wait more than five minutes to speak to someone.
To summarize, I wouldn't own another one of these phones if someone paid me. It just isn't worth the frustration. I blame Microsoft Pocket PC for the majority of the problems, but Toshiba also has a few issues that need to be addressed.
