| thisoldford's Full Review: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 (PSA10U-01C8WV) PC Note... |
I bought this laptop yesterday and can tell that it is going to surpass by expectations with ease!! I sold my Sony Vaio, (1.3ghz, 30gig hd, 14" screen, 256mb ram, dvd/cd-rw), for this. The Sony locked up on me right out of the box, but that's another subject! The only thing the Sony had on this is its' screen, it was much clearer. The screen on this Toshiba gives me headaches! The 40 gig hd (35 or so available out of the box) on this is more than enough for me! I have over 1300 mp3's a couple movies, and a bunch of other stuff and I still have 24 gigs available!! The speakers are more than adequate, they are nice and loud!
I burned 2 cd's last night, it was a little slow, but then again it is only an 8x, so I can't expect much! I am always connected to an outlet, so battery life doesn't effect me here. The software is easy to use, it is a drag and drop program, but I just use the windows cd making wizard. easy enough.
The DVD player plays beautifully! It uses Interwin DVD4, but again, I just use windows medial player.
The style is great, and I don't believe it will be outdated looking any time soon! Some say that it is too big and heavy, but I think it is quite fine, I can haul it everywhere!
Some people don't like the Celeron Processor, but I haven't noticed a difference from the AMD in the Vaio. I probably will not notice a difference unless I take up gaming or something. The built-in Wi-Fi is amazing! Right out of the box it picked up my neighbors network! But he has it password protected, which is a good thing, because a lot of people don't. HOWEVER, it has trouble connecting to my own wireless network, it will only connect if I set my router to broadcast my SSID, which really shouldn't be done for safety reasons.
I got this from Circuit City for $1100 minus the $250 rebates I will be getting, and I only paid $850 in the end!! They even threw in a nice carrying case! Get this: I sold my Vaio for $800 to get this, and the Vaio doesn't even compare with these specs, just goes to show how overpriced the Sony computers are!!
UPDATE: I have been using this for a little over 3 months now. Just as I thought, I love it 100% more than my Sony. It has only locked up on me three times or so, which can be expected with Windows. The Wi-Fi is still amazing and awesome! I would reccomend this laptop to anyone, you will be satisfied.
UPDATE #2: Here we are at nearly one year old and I must say, this has been the best purchase I have made in a long time! The laptop still functions flawlessly. I don't plan on selling this one any time soon.
