Pros: Solid Construction, Great Battery Life, Superb Wireless Reception, Good Warranty Options
Cons: XP Home not Pro, Poor Speakers, No Memory Card Slots, Annoying programs come preinstalled
The Bottom Line: I really like the system. If I had it to do all over again, I would have bought two instead of the other Dell that we have.

| edge155's Full Review: Toshiba Satellite A45-S1501 (PSA40U-0F0Q46) PC Not... |
Gone are the days where speed and memory matter. Now users like me who just want to surf the web, type some documents, check my e-mail, and tweak some photos can pick up just about any processor or memory allotment.
The Satellite stands out with it's solid construction. I've used a Dell laptop and a Compaq laptop and they both seem flimsy compared to this Toshiba. That's very important, because I broke the LCD display on the Compaq. This Toshiba laptop feels very rugged and tough. No flimsy materials are used in the outer casing.
The Satellite also has great battery life. I could easily take it on the train to work or a flight to Phoenix and have plenty of battery power to get my work done. I don't expect to have to worry about battery power for those long trips that I tend to take.
The most surprising feature to me was the quality of the Wireless NIC. We've got a wireless laptop, a wireless Pocket PC and a couple Linksys USB Nics and none of them like this NIC. I've got very good or excellent reception in places where I don't have any reception with these other devices. It's the best wireless I've ever used :) I really expected to add a couple wireless access points, but now I don't have to, because this laptop is so good.
There are some minor features that I hate. I wish it had an SD and Compact Flash slot, but it's got 4 usb ports to plug those into so it's not a total loss. It comes preloaded with a bunch of crap you've gotta uninstall although that's pretty standard and I would say you get more annoying garbage from our Dell laptop. The speakers also aren't very good. I played a song with a lot of bass and I thought maybe it wasn't the right song, but it turned out it was just the icky speakers. The bad speakers are pretty surprising too, because there are logos describing these speakers as titanium and trusound, but a couple of cheap headphones will sound way better than the speakers.
All and all I'm very happy with it. They offer a good warranty also. Toshiba offers an OPTIONAL warranty called Accident Guard that covers accidental damage. Since I've already broken a screen I put a high value on this service. I recommend on holding off on getting the retailer's warranty and get the Factory warranty, because accident coverage is practically unheard of for laptops and the chances of collecting are exteremely high.
